Contemporary Console Tables - Withstanding the Test of Time. One great thing about modern or contemporary console tables is that they never go out of style. When you think about how finicky the style and fashion world can be these days, this is a pretty impressive statement. Even though some of same contemporary console tables you see in stores today were created in the 20s, when the movement of modern furniture began, they`re still the height of fashion.
Glass alone or in combination with wrought iron is a very popular material. Of course, wrought iron may be used alone as well and is easily at home in an outdoor setting such as poolside or on a deck or porch. You might find contemporary console tables with mosaic tile lavished on their tops, creating a very distinctive finish with perhaps even the addition of a colorful handmade pattern.
Roll Desk Styles. Some contemporary console tables come with a roll desk style, a charming way to hide bills, mail and other paperwork during a dinner or cocktail party. Everybody needs an unloading zone, but it`s not like you want a landfill of papers sitting in your hallway. Contemporary sideboards with roll desk styles let you hide the mess elegantly.
The obvious pieces of furniture you are going to likely get for the living room are a sofa, possibly a loveseat and other chairs and seating options for your guests. Then you will likely get a coffee table, and many people also want matching end tables. But this is where you may want to put on the brakes. While end tables are nice, if you are going to do a lot of entertaining in this room, you should probably think of furniture pieces that will help you do that. Sure, end tables will give you a place to put a drink or two, but console tables can offer a lot more. In addition to adding countertop space, console tables can also offer a lot of storage space to put things you will need to have close at hand when you are entertaining, such as coasters for those drinks that are about to be set down.
Back in the 20s, the majority of the furniture on the market was wooden and heavy - dark woods. Pieces that had been carved and shaped into furniture works of art were commonly seen in homes. But then a movement started where less was more. The modernism movement replaced those heavy pieces of wood and thick padded and upholstered pieces with simple and sleek metal designs. Shiny polished metal, was the key to this type of furniture originally, with the whole idea being to replace all those heavy looking and heavy feeling pieces with light and airy furniture designs.
